The end of July was super hectic for me, but in such a good way. I got the opportunity to go to Miami Swim Week with Melrose Moda Creative Agency and makeup artist Amanda May, and it was incredible! I covered most of the weekend on my Instagram stories and through my feed, so today I’m going to be sharing some tips for bloggers who have never been.
SCHEDULING
Most of the blogger events are during the day, and the fashion shows start in the evening. Make sure you reach out to brands and influencer networks you have ongoing relationships with to see if they have any daytime events – most of the time they involve the pool or beach, and they’re a lot of fun! Not to mention a good way to meet new bloggers and get some really cute pictures.
This year, most of the shows were at the W South Beach, so that’s where I was every evening. It was really convenient to just RSVP to all of the shows there instead of running around to different locations. But honestly, if there’s a brand you are set on covering, go for it!
As fun as everything is, don’t forget to schedule some personal time. A day to just hang around and explore Miami is much needed after the hustle and bustle of Swim Week, especially if you’ve never been there before.
TRANSPORTATION
A lot of the Florida based bloggers drove down for Swim Week, including myself, but parking in Miami is always a struggle. I would definitely recommend using Lyft or Uber during Swim Week, as it is nearly impossible to find parking at the event locations. Traffic is also a mess in South Beach around that time. And speaking from personal experience, do not use the ‘pool’ options on those apps… anything can happen and you’ll be late for your event! Bottom line – get dropped off, and allow plenty of time for traffic and life’s surprises 😉
WHAT TO PACK
Normally I am annoyed by my overpacking, but this time it came in handy. If you’re not dead set on an outfit, definitely bring some pieces that you can mix and match in the event that you change your mind at the last minute. With all of the photos being taken, you definitely want to look your best. You also never know what kind of plans will pop up after the shows, so you need some options! I also could not survive without my $5 fan from Chinatown, some business cards, and my Instax camera. I also recommend bringing an umbrella that you can fold up in your purse because it rains every day in Florida during the summer.
SHOULD I STAY OR SHOULD I GO?
You’re probably wondering if Miami Swim Week is worth the time and money. I say… Yes! Especially if you’re already located in Florida. Miami is one of my favorite cities, and this was one of my favorite ways to experience it. It will get tiring going to a bunch of events and shows, but at the end of the day, it’s so cool to become acquainted with new brands, connect with your favorite brands, and see trends for the next year. If you’re hesitant about going, stick to a very relaxed schedule with 1-2 shows a night and an influencer event every other day, then see how you feel.
Who’s ready to go next year? I am!
I had the opportunity to go this year but couldn’t due to being ill. But your blog post definitely makes me want to go next year!
Oh man I’m sorry to hear that. Hope to see you there next year! xx Nubiana
