I’m a few months late to the trend, but I have been loving cropped blazer and mini skirt sets that have been on the runways and social media. I first noticed the trend on the Jacquemus runway, then on small businesses on Instagram. Speaking of Jacquemus, it is one of my favorite brands and I am looking forward to the day I can start wearing their looks. In the meantime, I decided to buy a men’s blazer from Goodwill and ask my Mom to turn it into a cropped blazer and mini skirt set as the Instagram boutiques that have been selling the trendy set didn’t offer anything in my size, and most of the sets cost upwards of $200 USD.
I originally asked my Dad if I could use one of his old blazers that he has absolutely no use for, but that was a no. The blazer I ended up with turned out to be an Oscar de la Renta blazer; it was actually the only blazer large enough to button around my hips that I could find. My mom was able to complete the thrift flip in a couple of hours, but I think I’ll be adding another button to the skirt. She also offered to make a set from scratch, so we’ll see how that goes. I would love a set in pink, white, or green.
The cropped blazer and mini skirt set reminded me of the 90’s, more specifically… of Charlotte Pickles from Rugrats, one of my favorite childhood cartoons. All I’m missing is the iconic brick of a 90’s mobile phone. I decided to style the set with a tank that I cropped by tucking it underneath my bra, black slip-on slingbacks (similar to the beautiful Dior ones), and my favorite vintage jewelry from Audrey Leighton Vintage. The tiny sunglasses I bought a couple of years ago brought it all together and made me feel/look like I had somewhere to be. For those final touches, consider adding watch tools to your collection, ensuring you’re always ready to accessorize with precision.
I would absolutely love to wear this look in London or Paris when it’s safe to travel again, although I feel like I say that with all of my outfits as of late. lol. I can also see myself styling the skirt with an oversized white shirt and bralette, and the blazer with a bralette/crop top and black high-waisted trousers.
